Fireplace Installations
Wiltons are able to work with a customer and provide a working flue system for any new/refurbished fireplaces.
That flue system might involve re-lining an existing chimney, or there may not be a chimney at the location where you are planning to have the fireplace, and one needs to be created and installed.
We can help in both instances.
Taking the first scenario of an existing chimney, once the chimney is cleaned and swept (leaving a clean stack to be lined), we would then work on the installation of a stainless-steel liner (to suit the fuel) within that stack.
The following would then have to be considered:
What size liner can be accommodated?
How tall is the chimney?
What size fireplace opening is planned?
Are there offsets in the chimney?
What type of fireplace is being installed? Gas?
Is it a tall stack with obvious offsets, and does it need a test pull, or even a CCTV?
Will the new liner be large enough to cope with the opening of the fireplace?
After establishing answers for the above, we can the look to assist with the lining of the chimney and how we make that a working system for you.
There is a direct relationship between the fireplace opening size, the height of the chimney and the size (diameter) of a flue/chimney. In other words, we are able to advise a fireplace opening size to work naturally with the size of liner that can be accommodate, or vice versa, which will in turn provide a working chimney for a fireplace.
What happens if my chimney liner is too small for my intended fireplace?
If this happens, the advice we would then give would be:
Unfortunately, your fireplace opening would have to reduce to suit the diameter....
or
You retain your design (or we go as large as possible) and we use a chimney fan to overcome the issue of an undersized chimney liner.
This is the main challenge that can come from refurbished installation in that you are working with defined parameters, but at Wiltons, wherever feasible, we want to give you, the customer, what you want, and therefore we will strive to deliver this in the way of as many options as possible.
There is then the scenario where a fireplace, or freestanding wood burner, is wanting to be located, and the chimney has either been taken down, or where one has never existed.
At this point we have more of a ‘blank canvas’ where we will be happy to sit down with you and look at the solutions we can offer.
We would invariably be looking at a twin wall stainless steel insulated Class 1 flue system to be installed through the property to a high level/roof termination, that complies with all relevant Building and Gas Regulations.
Please remember a new flue and termination may require Planning Approval, and Wiltons IFC would not get involved in that aspect in any way.
Whether you're a homeowner, an architect, a D&B contractor, or M&E contractor, etc, please feel free to get in touch and speak to us, and we can help with the complete configuration of the flue system, whatever form that takes and we can carry out the mechanical installation of that system.
We state mechanical as we are not electricians, and therefor if a fan installed you would need to employ a suitable contractor to work with us.
We work with a local fabricator and therefore we can produce any special or bespoke items required, e.g. gather canopy.
To reassure our customers, we only install products from recognised and/or major manufacturers with every aspect of the system.
Finally, if you need assistance or support with the actual appliance installation, then we have a network of Gas Safe engineers and HETAS registered installers that we can put you in touch with and they can ensure you are provided with a complete installation.
In summary we can assist our customers with as much or as little input needed to get a working fireplace, and therefore we can take a customer proposal from initial fireplace design and ensure a safe and compliant installation is carried out.
